Do you ever get surprised

By people? I don't mean like they jump out from behind a door and shout "BOO"
I mean people you thought were absolutely awesome and cool and kind and had integrity, turn out to be frauds. Or maybe fraud is too broad of a word. Maybe they are misguided, insecure. Its disinheartening to see someone you like, you think you know, fall into a trap, a pit. And nothing you can say will save them. Because they think they are safe.

And then there are the people you think are not so cool. People who you misjudge and label. People whom you don't even give a chance to because you think you know what they are all about... until one day you see the person inside. You see a glimpse of something. Kindness, Loyalty, Empathy. Then you wonder why you didn't give that person a chance... Ive done that two times in my life. Both of those people turned out to be some of the very best friends I have ever had.

Of course I have been burned a few times too... who hasn't? But the burns tend to be third degree ones! Not requiring skin grafts, but yet you wish you could graft that person a nice, new attitude... But of course they don't think they need it. Those types never do. I think it angers me and frustrates me so much because I can see glimmers... glimmers of kindness, glimmers of coolness. Its an eye opening experience. It shows you the best and the worst that we humans can be, and how we can always change. We just have to want to try.

Funny? Accurate? Stereotypical? Pointless? You decide.

A friend of mine posted this on my forum about Democrats/Liberals. It is, in my opinion a collection of half truths/stereotypes/assumptions about a wonderful group of people (of whom I am a member) who try to do good, try too much at times and make mistakes, blunders but also triumph and do many good things.

Lists like this are amusing (I chuckled a bit) especially when its aimed at "The Other Guy" LOL, but Heaven Forbid you think its offensive...you will be told that you are too sensitive and being PC is overrated! hahaha This one in particular kind of made me sad. "You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right."
I mean really... only the rich and republican deserve to have access to medical care? No-one deserves to die a preventable death. Unless of course you are The Phoenix on Days or Helena Cassadine on General Hospital. Those rich Republicans can rot in Hell.

I think that things like this just drive a wedge between us deeper, we laugh, we chuckle but a little portion of us might believe all are this radical, all deserve to be dismissed as "tree hugging liberals" and that is simply not true. All of us are onions... we have many layers, each deeper than the last. To trivialize a whole group of people is to your own detriment, once again...in my opinion. To me, these kind of things speak of bitter people...people unwilling or perhaps unable to see another side, to tolerate, to co-exist.

What do you think of the following?

Proposal Below. Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists,Marxists, Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce.

I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides cannot, and will not ever agree on whatis right, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences, and go our own way.

Here is a model dissolution agreement: Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that it should be relatively easy!

America Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.

You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military.

You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough tomove them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's, and rednecks.

We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood You can make nice with Iran and and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

You can have the peaceniks and war protestors. When our allies or way of life are under assault, we'll provide them job security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain.

You can also have the U.N. But we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.

We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach theWorld to Sing, Kum Ba Ya, or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics, and you can give trickle up poverty its best shot.

Since it often so offends you we'll keep our history, our name, and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other like minded patriots, and if you do not agree, just hit delete and hang on. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR onwho will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,
John J. Wall law student and an American
P.S. Also, we'll throw in Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda.

Random things from my childhood

I was born in 1967 (some might think this is old... perhaps it is, I don't feel old though) Some of you "young uns" may not know of these things of which I speak, but I think you should! This is just some random things from my childhood I wanted to remember and share.

Nancy Drew was cool... but I find that Trixie Belden was even cooler! Normal, sassy, wholesome yet real. She was a cooler girl detective than stuffy old "Titian haired" Nancy Drew. I still don't know why more people didn't know about her... I found my first Trixie book in a neighbors old barn in an old box... I have since read them all and saved them all too! I am a hoarder~

Trixie Belden Pictures, Images and Photos

Scooby Doo! I don't mean the movies that pretty much ruin my idea of Scooby. I mean old school Scooby (pre Scrappy-Doo and The Harlem Globetrotters LOL) they were funny, have groovy tunes and were the most amusing cartoons out there. And yes, we all know why Shaggy always had the munchies and even ate a Scooby Snack when he was desperate!

Scooby Doo Pictures, Images and Photos

Gilligan's Island.

1.Annoying... Check. 2. Rather inane... Check. 3. Ridiculous...Check. 4. Stereotypical....Check. 5. Funny..... Double Check.
Gillian was so annoying, so stupid yet endearing... The Captain was bossy, The Millionaire and his wife were so lofty and hoity toity. Then there was the bombshell and the innocent country girl, and the professor. All the stuff he invented and he couldn't invent a phone line!

Photobucket

Spirograph

You made cool designs with a minimal of instruments. Its so hard to describe...anyone remember it?

Photobucket

Music... yes, I loved Olivia but remember The Captain and Tenille? Muscrat Love is all I'm gonna say.

I hope you enjoyed my mini trip down Memory Lane!

Quotable Sunday!

Time for another edition of Toni's quotable Sunday. So your own quotes of the day and head on over to Toni's site and sign her Mr. Linky and visit as many other participants as you can! Find Toni HERE

My quotes today are on Mistakes... we all make them. If you learn from your mistakes, then making the mistake was worth it, if you don't learn... then you have wasted an opportunity to grow.

"Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from."
Al Franken, "Oh, the Things I Know", 2002

"Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life."
Sophia Loren (1934 - )

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
Albert Einstein

“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.”
John Powell quotes

"A man must be big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them."
John C. Maxwell

"Mistakes are the portals of discovery."
James Joyce

"You will do foolish things, but do them with enthusiasm." ~Colette

"I tell you: you must not be afraid of making mistakes. People think they will become good by doing no harm, but that's a lie. Such a frame of mind leads to stagnation and mediocrity."
Vincent Van Gogh

"More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." Harold J. Smith

Meme for fun!

Lana over at The kids did WHAT?! had this on her blog, so I stole the idea! It was a long time ago... just getting to it now!

I give you money and send you into the grocery store to pick up 5 items. You can only pick one thing from the following departments.. what is it?

1. Produce: Tomatoes

2. Dairy: Butter

3. Meat: Chicken Breasts

4. Frozen: Corn!

5. Dry goods: Nutri grain bars!

Let’s say we’re heading out for a weekend getaway this weekend. You’re only allowed to bring 3 articles of clothing with you. So, what’s in your bag?

1. Black Pants

2. Long sleeved top

3. Shoes

If I was to listen in on one of your conversations throughout the day, what 3 phrases or words would I be most likely to hear?

1. NO! When home with the kids

2. STOP HITTING YOUR BROTHER NOW!!!

3. Say you are sorry.

So, what 3 things do you find yourself doing every single day, and if you didn’t get to do, you probably wouldn’t be in the best mood?

1. Going online

2. Eating. I love to eat!

3. Lay in bed with my kitties

Sweet, you just scored a whole afternoon to yourself. We’re talking a 3 hour block with nobody around. What 3 activities might we find you doing?

1. Surfing the net.

2. Reading the latest issue of The Star!

3. Watching General Hospital!

We’re going to the zoo. But, it looks like it could start storming, so it’ll have to be a quick visit. What 3 exhibits do we have to get to?

1. Big Cats

2. Giraffes

3. Dolphins

You just scored tickets to the taping of any show that comes on T.V. of your choice. You can pick between 3, so what are you deciding between?

1. American Idol

2. General Hospital

3. Brotherhood.... LOL

You’re hungry for ice cream. I’ll give you a triple dipper ice cream cone. What 3 flavors can I pile on for ya?

1. Pecan Praline

2. Butter Pecan

3. Caramel swirl!

4. Drivers License

5. Tons of receipts from numerous stores!

2. A reporter for CNN

3. An Archeologist.

American Idol Watchers!!!

What did you think of last nights show?
I am sad the two BFF's were split up. Jamal was very talented although I agree, he didnt have that extra special "something" his friend had (Cant remember his name, but he looks like Robert Downey Jr, or my hubby's friend Robert Edmonds)

Doesnt he look a bit like this guy?

robert downey jr Pictures, Images and Photos

Norman... oh Norman... the Dragoonas abound on AI! I love it when Queens (dont be offended, I mean it lovingly) are on AI... they always throw Simon for a loop, because he cannot pigeonhole them, he cannot outwit them and he cannot trump them! I love to see Simon speechless. Jack and Karen could maybe make Simon cry... LOL

Karen Jack Pictures, Images and Photos

Tatiana... OH MY!!! Is she annoying, or is it just me and the other 13 million viewers? Is her speaking (can we call it that, siriusly?) voice kinda like fingernails on this?

Stand up Chalkboard $15 Pictures, Images and Photos

But even so, she still doesnt annoy me as much as this woman. UGH

Rosie O\'Donnell Pictures, Images and Photos

And the thing that has always bothered me greatly is Simon's rude and unnessasary comments about peoples weights. The pretty blonde versus the slightly chunky blonde with pink streaks (with a much better voice, IMO) and Simon has to ask if they really think they should pick the fat, fat blonde over the thin blonde. He really makes me angry the way he makes it about looks, always. Its looks as well as talent, stage presense, charisma...

You can be different, fat, ugly, weird, odd, quirky... and be a STAR, have star quality... like this guy.

Photobucket

He has Star Quality in spades. He may be odd, but he stands out, he is unique, he has charisma.

So, what did you think of American Idol?

Have you ever been so down

You cant recover? I feel like I am drowning... drowning in bills, obligations, payment plans...
We are renting now, our house has been foreclosed. (no judgment please) Not something to be proud of, something that was necessary. Bad choices we will not make again. Now we face the choice of moving again. we need to save money somewhere and a smaller house may have to suffice.

How much more can we cut out? We are getting rid of cell phones and going to pay per minute phones (my husband commutes, its necessary I think) Once our contract is up for cable TV, that will be gone. I refuse to give up internet... I think I would die if I couldn't vent to my online friends. We eat out once a week... we probably should cut this out, I am sure we will be. I feel hopeless sometimes. Like we can never recover.

I feel guilty that my boys cannot do fun things, we cannot sign up for T ball, Music class... I feel like they are being short changed because of my mistakes. Yes, I love them...but they deserve so much more.

I think I need to remember the things I am thankful for, right now I am having a hard time doing that.

Tomorrow. Back to our regularly scheduled program.

Quotable Sunday!

Another version of Toni's Quoteable Sunday... Today its about love... for Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day Pictures, Images and Photos

Love is everything it's cracked up to be…It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for.
Erica Jong,

There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.
Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 - 1900)

Love is, above all else, the gift of oneself.
Jean Anouilh (1910 - 1987)

“Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.”

“To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world.”
Brandi Snyder

“We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.”
Mother Teresa

My favorite Sonnet by Shakespeare

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O, no! it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

I have made progress!

I have started a new eating regimen... I do not starve myself, I just eat healthier, low calorie meals and snacks. I do have a free day on the weekend and I look forward to that ALL week! I have now lost in three weeks 5 lbs!!! YAY I look better, feel better, and I feel like I can keep this up...for the first time in my life. I am sure I will fall off the wagon and eat a whole cheesecake one day, or a giant cinnabon... but I am making a promise to myself to be better. I want my kids to be healthy individuals and how can I get them to make better choices if I do not?

But, I have to admit part of me is torn on my happiness with such an insignificant thing (in the general scheme of life) The goal of my life is to be happy, be kind, raise moral, gentle, kind and ethical children, live life to the fullest and feel every emotion and not hold back. Ive accomplished this, especially in these last 5 years. Ive gotten married to a wonderful man, gained a whole new awesome family... had two amazing children, adopted three wonderful kitties and been through good and bad, enlightenment and disillusionment... and Ive come out on top! I made it through.... so why does losing weight mean so much to me?

It makes me feel shallow. It makes me feel like I am conforming to society and their expectations and restrictions. It makes me feel like I am like those silly women who ask always "does my butt look big in this?" (sorry if that's you and I offend you, but I don't get it... we are all so worried and I am sure no-one but us notices)
I don't want to be like everyone else so I can fit in, and never get a second glance. I don't want to live my life worrying about the size of my butt. I want to eat, I want to enjoy my food, I want to savor a piece of cheesecake, a piece of pizza, fried shrimp...without beating myself up and feeling like a failure.

So, I am proud that Ive made better choices for myself... but I want to be doing it for the right reasons. I don't want to do it to be the ideal woman (per the media) I have no desire to look like Kate Moss on drugs.
But I do want to be here for these guys...

I guess that's worth conforming to society after all.

When do you stop caring?

Well, when do you stop having sympathy for friends that stay with men that are abusive/mean/unkind/controlling?
I am not talking about the man who might not be good at communicating, or is a couch potato, I am talking about men who control, who belittle, who call names and the women who love them, stay. and excuse. and get sympathy... but when the cycle repeats itself over and over and over...no matter how much good advice they get, my sympathy starts to fade into annoyance. I think its completely irresponsible and very wrong to subject yourself to that, add a child into the mix (or 2 or 3 or 4) and my annoyance turns into righteous anger. How dare women subject a child to a life like that. A child has no choice, but you do.

Is it a certain type of woman who lets herself be used and abused in this manner? Is it religion? Is it low self esteem? Is it simply habit? Is it a need for drama? I want to understand so that I can be more understanding, more supportive and less judgmental. I see many different types of women in my online life and my "real life" and these questions are ones that come up daily.

Enlighten me, help me to understand. I don't want to be one of those people who look down on others, who don't give support when needed.
But is there enlightenment? Am I right? Am I wrong? Am I an unsympathetic condescending jerk who thinks I know more than they do?

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Quoteable Sunday!

Sorry, a late edition of TONI'S Quoteable Sunday. Do your own, then head over and sign her Mr. Linky and visit others!

Mine is on sleep...slumber... cause after my fun but sleepless weekend at my sisters... that's all I want!

“Night has brought to those who sleep, only dreams they can not keep.”
~Enya~

"People who say they sleep like a baby usually don't have one." ~Leo J. Burke

"The bed is a bundle of paradoxes: we go to it with reluctance, yet we quit it with regret; we make up our minds every night to leave it early, but we make up our bodies every morning to keep it late." ~Charles Caleb Colton

"A ruffled mind makes a restless pillow." ~Charlotte Brontë

"There are twelve hours in the day, and above fifty in the night." ~Marie de Rabutin-Chantal

LOL! This is how I felt last night:
“Sleep is like the unicorn - it is rumored to exist, but I doubt I will see any”

I hope I can go to bed early tonight... Sweet dreams!
