Kinda Wordless Wednesday

This is the gift... the gift that made the rounds for 2 years in my work party's round robin game... this year my hubby stole it for us to bring home... I am fond of it and find it oddly pleasing to the eye...

Christmas present musings...

Christmas is for children, that's what Ive always heard and I think its really the most magical for time for them. If you are a parent who has a lot of money, the high expectations of gifts received is usually satisfied or surpassed. If not... well some kids will be disappointed. Especially if they are older, and can see what "Santa" or a classmates parent gave their friends.

I am not tying to say there is anything wrong with giving your children gifts, large gifts, expensive gifts... but I think sometimes it makes other parents not as well off feel inferior (me sometimes) I envy the ability of some parents to buy things for their kids that they really want, even if they are pricey. Lets face it, if my kids asked me for a Wii, or Guitar hero, the answer would be no. And then I would feel badly, and I would feel like I was a failure...even though I know deep down in my heart that it isn't all about what you give, but the why and the hows... I do not begrudge anyone the means and ability to make their children's Christmas dreams a reality. I think its awesome to be able to give to your children things that they want and hopefully have been good enough to deserve...LOL The thing is, its my issue, and one I need to work on. Because I know I am a good parent, a parent who provides the necessities in life and a few luxuries... I just wish I could do more.

Why are we so hard on ourselves as parents? Why is what we do never good enough? Because even my more well off friends think they are not giving enough... When will we realize its the happiness and love you give that will be remembered in years to come, not the amount of presents given, or not given... The riches we have are not of the material variety, they are something that comes from inside... that comes from our family and our bonds and love for each other. Thats something we all need to remember...rich or poor.

Toni's Quotable Sunday!

Toni over at A Daily dose of Toni hosts this. Do your own and head on over and sign her Mr. Linky!
Mine today focus on endings...since the year is coming to an end...

“In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”
Martin Luther King, Jr. quotes (American Baptist Minister and Civil-Rights Leader. 1929-1968)

"I existed from all eternity and, behold, I am here; and I shall exist till the end of time, for my being has no end."
Khalil Gibran

“It's weird...you know the end of something great is coming, but you want to hold on, just for one more second...just so it can hurt a little more.”

“In my end is my beginning.”
~ T.S. Eliot

"All's well that ends well; still the fine's the crown. Whate'er the course, the end is the renown."
William Shakespeare

"The opera isn't over till the fat lady sings."
Dan Cook

LOL, I am singing now!

Our Christmas days!

We had a good Christmas... instead of a sit down/bog meal, we did an appetizer and dessert meal! It was great and we were able to try a bunch of different things!
The boys were pretty well behaved and managed to sleep some on the way to and from my sister's house!
Here are a few pics!

My top Christmas movies!

According to me! Please remember, I dont watch many movies.... I know there are many great movies out there yet for me to see! I came up with my list of seven! Let me know which ones I missed and what I need to see!

I saw this on another blog...but cant remember where, or I would link them! In no particular order...

Elf
Will Ferrel My love Pictures, Images and Photos

Really the movie that gets a top score for me. Will Ferrell is always awesome, its funny, heart warming and just plain crazy. Syrup on spaghetti... EWWWWWWW Makes me cringe every time!

A Christmas carol (Alistair Sims 1951 version)
Photobucket

I have always loved the story of the mean, miserly man transformed by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Its a timely story, in my opinion. Although they are not the special effects of our time, I find this version super creepy and well acted. Who needs special effects when you have a good story and cast.

A Christmas Story
Christmas story!! Pictures, Images and Photos

Fun, Quirky and campy! Love it!

Its a wonderful life
its a wonderful life Pictures, Images and Photos

WOW, talk about happiness, sadness and hope. This movie is tops for sheer drama, love and the hope that Christmas and friends adds to our life. If you wanna cry for a few hours but enjoy every minute of it, watch this movie.

Die hard...for Moo
Die Hard Pictures, Images and Photos

Eye Candy, I admit... Bruce and the "Oh So Lovely Voiced" Alan Rickman! Not fun to be a hostage on Christmas Eve...but still a great movie!
Alan Rickman in Die Hard! Pictures, Images and Photos
Who doesnt love a well read and articulate bad boy?!?

Home alone
Home Alone Pictures, Images and Photos
The premise of leaving a kid home alone for Christmas, forgetting him... is a parents nightmare!!! But this movie is pretty funny! I enjoy seeing the bad guys get their comeuppance!

Miracle on 34th street...
Miracle on 34th street Pictures, Images and Photos

Santa crazy? Santa persecuted? HECK NO!!!

Thank goodness it all ends up well! I love old movies!!!

I hope you check these out if you haven't seen them and
I hope you have some recommendations for me as well.

Quoteable Sunday!

Quoteable Sunday is here again, hosted by TONI do your own, and head over to Toni's site and sign her Mr. Linky

My quotes are about Christmas...since the day is almost upon us!

"Remember, if Christmas isn't found in your heart, you won't find it under a tree."
~ Charlotte Carpenter.

Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect. - Oren Arnold

"Are you willing to forget what you have done for other people, and to remember what other people have done for you ... to remember the weakness and loneliness of people who are growing old ... Are you willing to believe that love is the strongest thing in the world ... stronger than hate, stronger than evil, stronger than death... Then you can keep Christmas! But you can never keep it alone."--Henry van Dyke ("Keeping Christmas" in The Spirit of Christmas)

"Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we're here for something else besides ourselves."--Eric Sevareid

Wow! Impressive. "We can expect great things from you." You must have read the books several times or are just really good at remembering which spell does what. (Or in a more disappointing case, you used your knowledge of Latin phrases to ace the quiz.) I myself didn't know all the spells until I started writing this test. Nevertheless, congratulations! Cinnabon review!

I would love to do reviews and a friend of mine told me the way to start, was to start off with a product you know and love... and what could be a more loved product than Cinnabon cinnabon Pictures, Images and Photos

I first discovered Cinnabon about 10 years ago at a local mall in the Bay Area of California and Ive never bought a different brand since that glorious and happy day!

Cinnabon's literally melt in your mouth, in their words... "The roll that made us famous! Warm dough, filled with our legendary Makara® Cinnamon, topped with freshly made cream cheese frosting."

I think Cinnabon also threw in a dash of magic and a pinch of love to make these the most delicious and scrumptious treats ever! The cream cheese frosting is to die for... never grainy or too sweet...its just right! And the cinnamon... it is perfect in its intensity.

They have many exciting products as well as the traditional Cinnabon...they have Minibon, the Caramel Pecanbon (Warm dough, filled with our legendary Makara Cinnamon, topped with pecans and smothered with rich caramel) Cinnabon Stix and many more products! Even more exciting is it is avalable online here at Cinnabon.com

So, if you have a favorite blogger you would love to surprise with a Cinnabon, (Who, ME???) or just a regular family member... Head on over to Cinnabon.com and tell em Minxy Mimi sent ya!

How do you feel about the Duggar Family?

The ones who just had their 18th child!
Here is a link, if you wanna read more: Duggar Family

I think there will be a lot of strong opinions... personally, I think its completely unfair to your children to have another after another after another... when does "Mommy and Daddy" time come? When is there one on one? From what I read they are well behaved and do not use the government for money... BUT, I think its unfair. The older children are in charge of younger ones. I think its a mom and dads responsibility to be the main caregiver. It isn't an older sibling. JMHO

I think children deserve to be carefree, even if its just for a few years...even if they don't think they need it, want it, or miss it. I guess you cant miss what you never had...but it makes me sad somehow.

What do you think?

Welcome to my life

I would leave before this gets messy...

I need help, advice, a firm talking too, maybe even a time out.

My oldest child bit another at daycare. My kids have went from "My best boys" (per our daycare lady) to sassy boys. They have been there 1.5 years now. Max bit one time and after we talked to him, it hasn't happened again. Jack never has...until yesterday. I asked him why, he couldn't explain other than the other child scratched him... what do I do? I talked to him, explained different things he can do and say... I just feel like the absolute worst, neglectful and loser mom in the whole world.

He doesn't have a broken home, we don't beat him... but we yell. I have been on a mission to stop the yelling and deal with naughty behavior in a calm and quick manner.

I feel like such a jerk, like a loser and like the worst mom ever. Please help me and give me some advice or reassurance or stories...anything.

But for his support of gay and lesbian rights!

2. Angelina Jolie
Angelina Pictures, Images and Photos
Not just for making my Star Magazine worth reading (LOL) but for all the good things she does for people in the world... for orphaned children, for refugees, for war torn nations... she doesnt just give a tax write off deduction, she puts her money where her mouth is. She visits, she helps, she cares. I admire the caring woman she has evolved into. People can change, and I think she has finally grown up and into a kind, selfless human being.

3. Well, I gotta be thankful for her arch enemy.. Jen Anniston!
jennifer anniston Pictures, Images and Photos

She gives us "Average looking" girls a bit of hope... yes, even we can land a "Bradd Pitt"...thanks Jen for being "every woman" and giving us hope!

4. I am thankful for Jessica Simpson
jessica simpson Pictures, Images and Photos

For making me look like a brainiak! I know that chicken doesnt live in the sea, and I know that she was a fool to give up Nick Lachey~

5. Lastly (at least for today) I am thankful for Britney Spears
britney spears Pictures, Images and Photos

For making me look like an almost perfect mother... Poor Britney. She is a young mom and had made some big mistakes... but I think she is trying and I know she loves her boys. But I am thankful she makes ME look sane and competant and normal.... almost~

Quotable Sunday

Toni over at A Daily Dose of Toni started Quotable Sunday!
We recently debated Gay Marriage on my forum, and yesterday I went to visit my old work friends, 2 of which are a lesbian couple, in love, devoted, monogamous and together for 12 years. Quite a feat in today's world. So my quotes today are about homosexuality.

"Disapproval of homosexuality cannot justify invading the houses, hearts and minds of citizens who choose to live their lives differently."
Harry A. Blackmun (American Supreme Court justice, 1908-1999

“What do you mean, you "Don't believe in homosexuality"? It's not like the Easter Bunny, your belief isn't necessary.”
Lea DeLaria

"No government has the right to tell its citizens when or whom to love. The only queer people are those who don't love anybody." ~Rita Mae Brown, speech, 28 August 1982

"Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself." ~Harvey Fierstein

If homosexuality is a disease, let's all call in queer to work: "Hello. Can't work today, still queer."
Robin Tyler

"I'm a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being... by the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private parts is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant." Paul Newman

"Labels are for filing. Labels are for clothing. Labels are not for people."
Martina Navratilova

"The important thing is not the object of love, but the emotion itself." ~Gore Vidal

How normal are you?

45% normal... higher than I expected...LOL

You Are 45% Normal

While some of your behavior is quite normal...

Other things you do are downright strange

You've got a little of your freak going on

But you mostly keep your weirdness to yourself

Can men and women be platonic friends?

Recently that was the question on a forum I am a member of. Most people said no. I said yes (I like to be contrary...LOL) I said yes because my husband is friends still with a girl he grew up with. Actually we are now friends more than they are (kids bring you together) but I still would not have one, tiny worry in my head if they decided to say, go to lunch...or go to the park with the kids or something.

Is it simply that I have an exceptional hubby? Or do you think I am way off base and wrong?

Are you friends with the opposite sex? Is your Significant other? Do you think platonic friendship between a man and a woman is possible?

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this.

Thankful Tuesday TODAY!

Denise over at Laughing with Spoons started this. Todays topic is:

TODAY. Meaning what about today are you thankful for?

1. I am thankful that for the first time in a week, my stomach doesn't hurt. I don't have cramps, and I don't have to visit the bathroom every hour. Its the little things, right?

2. I am thankful that my husband s feeling better (Sinus infection) and can go to work and make money... we need money! We love money! YAY

3. I am thankful it is my in-laws day to watch the boys. Its nice not to have to get us all ready and out the door to go to Daycare. I can lounge and relax and get ready leisurely! Plus our sink has a leak and my Father in law is going to look at it so maybe we don't have to call the landlord...I hate calling the landlord for stuff. (I know my Mother in law reads this, this is just a reminder...hahahaha)

4. I am thankful for General Hospital spoilers. Weird??? Well, my favorite bad guy Jerry Jacks who was unceremoniously killed off (well, not killed, just blown up while handcuffed to a boat...in Soap Opera land, that's never a fatal occurrence) is going to be "reappearing" at least for a few episodes... I miss my evil, accent wielding bad guy!

Jerry Jacks Pictures, Images and Photos

5. I am thankful for my coffee pot...for without it, I would be sad, tired, grumpy and out of sorts. My co-workers also thank my coffeepot...even if they don't realize it!

6. I am thankful for electricity. Our electricity went out for 45 minutes yesterday. 45 minutes? It seemed like 5 hours! The boys and I sat in mostly dark with a few candles and looked at each other. No TV, no computer, no before mentioned Coffee, no Christmas lights... UGH... HOW did people live before??? I have read about something called a percolator, so they must have made do.

7. I am thankful for the stock market being up. I work for a local Ameriprise branch. I hope its up today too.

8. I am thankful for e-bay. I was able to sell some extra kids clothes I had, so I was able to buy some presents for Christmas and save our budget a little. YAY E-bay!

9. I am thankful as always for my friends. You know who you are. I am thankful for my loyal bloggy followers and commenters. I started this blog on a whim, its been a very good experience for me, and its made me some new cherished friends. Thanks for coming back...even when I do not have anything new and exciting to say.

10. I am thankful that it is 6:34 and my kids are still sleeping. Well... wait, I just heard Max cough... I am thankful they slept this long...usually Jack is up at 5:30!!! If they had not slept so well, I could not have written this post! YAY

The End!

Breastfeeding moms are best!

Well, that's what Robin Scorpio on my fave Soap (General Hospital) seems to think... I seem to think that General Hospital is getting on my nerves lately.

This breastfeeding debate has always bugged me because it shouldn't even be something that is debated, in my opinion. The story: Robin due to her HIV status does not breast feed her new baby. Makes perfect sense. What doesn't make sense (and never has to me) is that she feels like she has failed her daughter, like she inst a good mother because she cannot breastfeed. This point of view has always annoyed and saddened me. Society and some moms have forced their ideas of "The Perfect Mother" on the rest of us. We all have to be the ultimate "Earth Mother" who breastfeeds on demand, who cares nothing for her own health and happiness and well being. Sleep??? Who needs it. Happiness??? Overrated.

I am not advocating letting your babies needs not be met, nor be important... what I am saying is that you can be an excellent mother, a caring mother...and not breastfeed. I chose not to breastfeed for a few reasons. One reason was I simply had no desire to, another was the fact that being a new mom is hard enough without having a way to have your hubby help. I bottle fed as well so my husband could share in the feeding duties. So, I guess you could say I chose my own health, happiness and well being first with that decision. A tired, unhappy and pressured mommy does not equal a better mommy. Personally I think that a well adjusted baby has nothing to do with what you feed them, but with how you feed them. Both my husband and I had a chance to bond and enjoy watching our little ones while they ate... it was a lovely experience.

Personally, I wish shows like General Hospital would stop making women feel like they are failures...to hear a character say those words, might make another woman doubt her own judgment and decisions. Might make her feel like she is a bad mom when in fact she is not. I hate the fact that this society we live in tries to force upon us that we all need to think alike, be "cookie cutter" That is not me. I hope it is not you...and I hope it isn't our daughters and sons that we are raising into adults.
For I want my children to be strong, caring and confident in the choices they make, while at the same time willing to see mistakes and correct them. I want my children to be interesting, interested and unique, just as I am. I am confident I will get my wish.

Quoteable Sunday!

Toni over at A Daily Dose of Toni is starting this... if you want to participate (hopefully earlier on that I did) o over to Toni's place and sign her Mr. Linky!

Mine are Harry Potter quotes. JK Rowling knows what she is talkin about!

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. ~spoken by the character Albus Dumbledore

If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals. ~J.K. Rowling, "Padfoot Returns," Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, 2000, spoken by the character Sirius Black.

It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more. ~J.K. Rowling, "The Cave," Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, 2005, spoken by the character Albus Dumbledore

It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well. ~J.K. Rowling, "King's Cross," Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, 2007, spoken by the character Albus Dumbledore

Mama Kats writing assignment

Mama Kat over at mama's losin it had this assignment today. Check hers out, its a great read.

Choose a prompt:

1.) Tag! Post and write about the 6th picture from the 6th folder of your Flickr (or similar) account and then do the same for the 6th picture of the 6th folder on your computer.

2.) Are you still friends with you high school friends? Describe them.

3.) If you had to star in a reality tv show, which one would it be and why?

4.) Describe a time when your pet caused chaos.

I picked 3, if I had to star in a Reality show, which one and why, but also a list of the why nots! LOL

I am sure that many think it should be "The Biggest Loser" because I am certainly more than 100 lbs qualified to participate in that program... but I find that as I have aged, I have grown less concerned with the superficiality of life and looking perfect and California thin and more concerned with the taste of cinabons... LOL

SO, America's Next Top Model I think is out... or not do you think???

Photobucket

I am married, and quite happily...so Flava of love has to be out...even tho of course he is as hott as they come... Dontcha think we would make a lovely couple?

Flav Pictures, Images and Photos

I don't do "Survivor" I don't do raw food, killing my food, or going without my food...which of course qualifies me for "The biggest Loser" but as I have mentioned before... enough poundage but not enough willpower or desire. Nor do I do sleeping outdoors with bugs and creepy crawlies. Its not "me"... I need to be true to "me".

I would love to do American Idol...but alas, I am waaaaayyyyyy too old and there is one little problem. I cannot sing. Well, I can... but not well. And even though I have much experience with mean, cranky, sarcastic, and tight t-shirt wearing gay men... (It might be best if you didn't ask why) I think Simon would probably make me cry. If Paula hugged me, I might puke, and if Randy called me "dog", well... I might punch him. I am not a dog... I am a sweet and precious kitty. LOL

So... I think unfortunately for me it has to be "Super Nanny" because although my kids are the cutest kids EVER, they can also be a handful...like here:

Photobucket

My almost 4 year old refuses to be 100% potty trained, he insists upon stealing all his brothers toys and that brother then insists on biting him to show his displeasure. I think she could whip us all back into shape in a few days for sure...they are not quite as bad as some of the hellions Ive seen on that show!
I think. I hope and I pray. Too bad I am Agnostic... my prayers wont get answered... LOL

Getting to know me...Christmas edition

Sent to me via e-mail by Aggie at The Universe according to Agata

Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends. Okay, here's what you're supposed to do, and try not to be a SCROOGE!!! Just copy this entire post and paste into your post. Change all the answers so that they apply to you. Then post this on your blog linking back to who you got the idea from! Tis the Season to be NICE!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both

2. Real tree or Artificial? I love a real tree... but I have 3 cats and 2 kids. I am not sure which ones are more destructive. I know the cats are cuter when they pull the ornaments off than the kids are....hahahaha
For right now, I have a small Ghetto tree (see post below)

3. When do you put up the tree? Early December usually. It is already up tho... my boys were asking for it.

4. When do you take the tree down? Usually after the new years!

5. Do you like eggnog? No way! I do not care for eggs.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Barbie town house. It looked similar to this:
Photobucket

I loved the elevator!

7. Hardest person to buy for? My sister...she is picky, picky. She does love Pam Schifferl ornaments like I do tho...so its getting easier.

8. Easiest person to buy for? My mom, she loves anything and everything!

9. Do you have a nativity scene? No.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? I mail photo cards, does anyone really e-mail cards???

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? A cheap dollar store frame that had "tubby time" on it (I am hoping it meant for a babies bath, not for my tubby tummy)

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? A Christmas Carol the old, old version. The 1951 version actually...its cool and creepy.
Scrooge

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Usually around late November. Most of it is done online though.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Ummm... well....

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Polenta with Sausage and chicken. Its out traditional Italian Christmas day meal (Christmas Eve is cioppino and New Years eve used to be Bagna Calda but we stopped making it yearly)

16. Lights on the tree? Heck yeah! I like all white and colored...just depends on my mood!

17. Favorite Christmas song? Winter Wonderland, and O Holy Night

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? We travel to my sisters house (1.5 hrs away) this year, but we usually trade off.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? Yes, I can... I will not post them, cause you might copy...LOL

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? I like a Star best!

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? We open one on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas day!

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Trying to budget for presents when you just want to be able to splurge and get your kids their hearts desires for once.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color? I am an obsessive Pam Schifferl collector. Other than that, I have no themes.

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Honey baked ham!!! And my Brother in law's lemon potatoes.

25. What do you want for Christmas this year? A few gift cards, I really would love to get some new clothes!

Now its your turn...

We put our ghetto tree up this weekend!

LOL

We bought a small fake tree for putting up on a fold away table! I think until the kiddos get bigger and stop trying to grab all the ornaments we shall do a small one... I wish I were not so obsessive about my ornaments tho. I am an obsessive Pam Schifferl collector.... I have at least 15 ornaments from her retired line. If anyone has any extra, send them to me! HAHAHAHA

It is very cool to have young children during this time of the year. The wonder and excitement in my boys eyes is so contagious. Makes me want to be a little girl again. Playing with toys like this:

I loved Clue, but I always lost

Mousetrap! I know they still make it, but its so old school!

The Bionic Woman game... original. I loved her!

Tinker toys... they came in hard cardboard containers...they had a smell I remember well but is indescribable but very memorable.

Anyone remember Spirograph? I loved this... you could make this bu putting your pen inside a disc thing... it is super hard to describe.

My sister and I both had Ballerina Barbie... her crown was attatched to her head...LOL
